Parts that are worn out, such as a frayed cable or cracked rollers, are shown to you with the reason, and replaced only if you agree.
Tune-Up or Repair?
- Book a tune-up if the door works but has grown noisy, slow or jerky, if it has not been looked at in over a year, or if you have just moved in and do not know its history.
- Book a repair if the door will not open or close, hangs crooked, has a visible gap in a spring, or has a loose cable. See garage door repair.
When to Have It Done
- Autumn is the most useful time: springs and seals are checked before the cold that breaks them.
- After buying a home. Inspections often note the door "operates" without testing balance or the safety reverse.
- After a new opener is fitted to an existing door, if the door was not serviced at the same time.
- Before selling, so the door passes the buyer's inspection.
What It Will Not Fix
A tune-up restores a sound door to smooth running. It cannot add life to a spring that has reached the end of its cycles, or straighten a creased section. If the visit finds something of that kind you will be told what it is, how urgent it is, and what the options are, including leaving it for now where that is safe.
